The come back of the year: Bill and Tom Kaulitz, Bunte

Only minutes apart, Tom Kaulitz came into the world at 6:20 in 1989, his twin brother Bill minutes later. The jury Dieter Bohlen (58) calls it “A gift of God” not of this world. And indeed, Bill Kaulitz has a look with feminine facial features and clothes like a creature from another planet. Tom, however, is manly, a young womanizer.
The 23 year old brothers do everything together. On January 5th they will take part in the DSDS jury. The guys of the sensational band Tokio Hotel have disappeared for two years.
-In 2010 they moved to Los Angeles to take a break. Why did you leave Germany?
Bill: We longed for a home and a life. That was no longer possible in Germany.
- Why?
Tom: We were photographed when we left our home and stalked by crazy people. It was a nightmare.
Bill: All day we had security, we are like in a prison behind a six-foot fence.
- Tom said in an interview: It’s amazing what people could do ill and dangerous.
Tom: People have given their lives for Tokio Hotel. A love-hate relationship. For them it’s about taking control of our lives. All employees who have entered our house, whether it was cleaning or maintenance personnel they had to be monitored. This has nothing to do with our normal fans.
Bill: 24 hours of psychological terror!
Tom: It’s like having a spy watching your every move. They were incredibly well organized. We thought: How do they know where we are? Even though we worked together with the police.
- Can you explain your obsession?
Tom: They are so dangerous because they have nothing to lose. All of their problems are completely screened onto us.
- To what extent these stalkers approached?
Bill: They knew no bounds. They used every means to get a reaction from us.
-Nobody could handle that. When was it finally enough for you?
Tom: When they pushed our car off the street.
- Excuse me?
Bill: We were in the family car with our family and friends. We have a natural protective instinct, like everybody does. If these people get too close to our family, we just act instinctively.
- You have compared your life with the life of Britney Spears. Could you sympathize with the reason why she shaved her head?
Bill: I can understand her position 100 percent. Behind it lies a desire for freedom, you do not want your life to be determined by others and if you want to shave your head, just do it.
- How much of your youth has been lost because of Tokio Hotel?
Tom: We had a great time, of course, back then, we never wanted to lose what was taken from us early.
- What do you mean?
Bill: We had a company at the age of 15 where we had lawyers, tax consultants, and managers, everything on our payroll, but that was a good thing since we hate superiors.
-Bill, you have not been in love since you were 14 because you have a problem trusting people. How much do you miss being in love?
Bill: I miss living in this fast life. I’ve always wanted to have someone to just be there. Of course I have Tom. I am very happy that we are brothers. I could not work as a solo artist.
- Why did you move to Los Angeles and not elsewhere?
Tom: We did not move there to live a glamorous life. There we have our work, we could retire in private.
Bill: Our life is freer than ever! We especially like to work on our new album, we work on it every day.
- How long will you live in the U.S.?
Tom: We get bored fast. It’s possible that in a few months we will go back to Germany.
